Omega

Omega is going through a renovation, not a collapse

The internet has decided Omega is in trouble. It has mistaken a renovation for a collapse. Read the last few years properly and you find the opposite: a brand that finally knows what it was getting wrong, and has started fixing it in the right order.

Done right

Reinforce the real pillar — precision. Not the Moon, not the sea. The Constellation Observatory landed this year as a ground-up redesign, the first two-hand watch Omega ever put through Master Chronometer certification. The Milano Cortina pieces do the same work in enamel and gold. Omega is remembering that its deepest asset is the thing it measures the world with, not the story it keeps re-telling.

Let the hero stay a hero. The white-dial Speedy and the posh ceramic reverse-panda can chase the register precisely because the plain hesalite Moonwatch never moves. You still walk in and buy the honest one at retail. Elevate the variants; leave the floor alone. That is the discipline the limited-edition machine forgot.

Bring the tools to a modern standard. The Planet Ocean loses the helium valve and gains a new design language. Refinement, no drama.

Still owed

A Seamaster with modern ergonomics, valve gone, cut loose from leaning on Bond to do its talking. A Railmaster that is a real tool and not an Aqua Terra wearing a different dial. A Constellation loud enough to fix the embarrassment that the brand’s true soul-keeper is barely known in the West.

To be avoided

Every trick borrowed from Rolex. No manufactured scarcity. No published calendar of price rises. Omega’s entire advantage is being the serious watch you can actually buy on fair terms. Play Rolex’s games and it surrenders the one ground Rolex can never take from it.

Two or three years of this and Omega doesn’t steady — it thrives. The foundation was never the problem. The house needed editing, and the editing has started. A remodel that honours the heritage without a trace of snobbery.
